Bollywood has lost one of its most enduring icons. Kamini Kaushal, whose career spanned nearly eight decades and who made her film debut in 1946’s acclaimed Neecha Nagar, passed away at her home in Mumbai on 14 November 2025 at the age of 98.
Over her long and varied career, Kaushal appeared in more than 100 films, transitioning from leading-lady roles in the 1940s and 50s to rich character roles in later years. She worked alongside cinematography legends and collaborated with generations of actors, leaving an indelible mark on Indian cinema.
In the wake of her death, several Bollywood stars paid tribute to her talent and kindness. Actor Shahid Kapoor, who shared screen space with her in Kabir Singh, wrote that it was “an honour” to have worked with her. Actress Kiara Advani noted that Kaushal’s grace and humility inspired generations of performers.
Industry insiders point out that Kaushal’s passing symbolises the end of an era in Hindi cinema — one where classical acting styles, studio systems, and evolving film narratives met in a unique way. Her legacy will be remembered not only through her filmography but also through the influence she had on younger artists and the standards she set for screen presence and craft.
Kamini Kaushal is survived by her three sons. The film fraternity, fans and the broader arts community are paying respect to a star whose work crossed decades and cinematic transitions.
