Singer Kanika Kapoor has earned a Grammy nomination for her role in the album Sounds of Kumbha, which has been shortlisted in the Best Global Music Album category for the 68th Grammy Awards. Kapoor’s contribution comes through her vocal performance on the album’s title track “Maha Kumbh,” a musical tribute to one of India’s largest spiritual gatherings.
Produced by Siddhant Bhatia, the album brings together more than 50 artists from India and around the world. Blending ancient chants, traditional instrumentation, modern beats and contemporary production, the project aims to reflect the scale, devotion and cultural significance of the Maha Kumbh Mela. Kapoor expressed her gratitude at the nomination, calling it “an honour” to be part of a piece that represents India’s cultural heritage to the world.
Music industry commentators say the nomination not only elevates Kapoor’s international profile but also reinforces the growing global recognition of Indian fusion and devotional-inspired music. As Indian artists increasingly engage with world music formats, this recognition may open doors for further cross-border collaborations and showcase Indian cultural narratives on international platforms.
