Swara Bhasker and her daughter

Actress Swara Bhasker has shared that becoming a mother to her daughter Raabiyaa (nicknamed Raabu) has helped her overcome the anxiety of getting older, and brought greater acceptance of her changing body and identity. In a recent interview, she described the experience as “transformative”.

Bhasker said that prior to motherhood “there was one Swara”, and since welcoming Raabu in 2023 she has met “another” version of herself — one who is learning to balance professional ambition with parenthood. She added that the familiar pressures around appearance and age started fading as she embraced her new role.

Addressing her former identity as a driven, career-focused woman, Swara explained that motherhood unsettled her sense of self:

“I actually went through a huge identity crisis because I just didn’t know who I was anymore after having a baby…”

She also spoke candidly about body image and public perception in Bollywood:

“Having Raabu has helped me age well. And it has taken away my anxiety of getting older… that crazy anxiety around that extra kilo or looking a little plumper or little double chin – that’s just gone.”

Swara further noted that her current project, the television-format series Pati, Patni Aur Panga alongside husband Fahad Ahmad, has brought unexpected positive feedback. She acknowledged that this affirmation has helped rebuild her confidence as she prepares to balance motherhood and career.

In closing, the actress emphasised that the industry’s focus on youth and glamour is evolving, and that she now feels grateful to be part of a generation of performers who can embrace change, growth, motherhood and career without compromise.
