Mona Singh recently revealed that she was originally offered the lead role in the popular television series Anupamaa, which later became a major success with Rupali Ganguly in the titular role. During an interview she explained that despite the opportunity she chose to decline the project for personal reasons.

Singh explained that at the time she was evaluating her commitments and felt she would not be able to deliver the role the way she wanted. She mentioned that although the offer held significant appeal she felt it was better to step back than take on a project she could not fully commit to.

Following her decision the producers eventually cast Rupali Ganguly in the role, and the show went on to become one of the most-watched Indian television dramas. Industry analysts say Singh’s choice reflects the pressures actors face when selecting long-term roles in an evolving television landscape.

As fans reflect on what might have been the show’s trajectory with Singh, the actress stated that she remains supportive of the current cast and acknowledged the success of Anupamaa. She emphasised that her decision was a strategic career move rather than a rejection of the project’s vision.
