Americana and alt-country singer-songwriter Todd Snider has passed away at the age of 59. His family and label confirmed that he died following complications related to pneumonia; the cause of death has not been officially detailed.
Snider built a career over more than three decades, celebrated for his sharp lyrical voice, storytelling style and ability to blend folk, country and rock influences in his music. He emerged from scenes in Oregon, Texas and Tennessee, ultimately becoming a respected figure in Nashville’s East Nashville community.
In recent weeks he had cancelled the remainder of a tour after a reported assault outside a hotel and subsequent hospitalisation. Officials acknowledged he had been treated for serious injuries and reported breathing difficulties.
